Our AMS Snailworks Engineering Team knows that excessive under hood temps can be a huge power robber, which is why they designed the optional airbox and duct upgrade to keep out blistering engine bay heat, ensuring that your engine is receiving the coldest air possible. They then improved airflow to the turbocharger by enlarging and perfectly matching the inner diameter of each section for reduced air turbulence and restriction, all of which translates into more horsepower and torque.
OPTIONAL ENLARGED DUCT AND AIRBOX
When it comes to making power, bigger is better. One of our Snailworks Engineering Team’s main objectives was to not be constrained by the small OEM duct design that feeds air to the airbox. To accomplish this, the optional AMS airbox and duct have been enlarged significantly compared to their stock counterparts for improved airflow in from the front grille. In fact, the connection between the duct and airbox has been enlarged by over 149%! This adds an improved ram-air effect, resulting in lower intake air temperatures entering the engine.
PERFECTLY ENGINEERED SILICONE AND PIPING
The turbo inlet silicone couplers that feed air into the WRX’s turbo need to deliver that air as smoothly as possible to achieve the best performance. Our AMS Snailworks Engineering Team designed each silicone connection to seamlessly transition the cold air into the next section, reducing restriction and allowing the turbos to breath easier. To take the design even further they added a factory-style locating fixture into the construction of the silicone to ensure that the AMS Performance 2022+ Subaru WRX Air Intake is the easiest intake to install on the market. With this locating feature added, you’ll instantly know the exact piping orientation needed to make installation on the compressor cover a snap!
MO’ POWA BABY
The OEM manufacturer spends a lot of time reducing turbo noise and airflow at the expense of horsepower. By allowing the turbo to ingest all the cold air it needs, the AMS Performance 2022+ Subaru WRX Air Intake boosts power capability significantly. With our billet MAF housing, full 3″ intake piping, and high performance dry media filter, we’re opening up the intake tract drastically for improved airflow to the engine. The optional AMS airbox and duct gather cold air from the front grille and pipe it directly to the air filter, resulting in lower intake air temperatures entering the engine.
An organically shaped duct and intake pipe allow for not only for perfect fitment, but allow for reduced pre-turbo airflow restriction. Featuring gradual bend radii and pipe size transitions, air flows unimpeded all the way to the turbo compressor inlet. To quantify this, our AMS Snailworks Engineers ran dyno tests to determine the horsepower improvements seen at the wheels for both “with Stage 1 ECU calibration”, and “out-of-the-box” configurations. For our first test we performed a back to back test of the stock intake compared to our AMS WRX Air intake, with no changes to the factory ECU, resulting in a 15 WHP improvement over stock! Our second test showed an even more impressive 25 WHP improvement when comparing the stock intake and AMS Air Intake when both are flashed with a simple Cobb Stage 1 OTS Map for improved efficiency. Torque numbers are also increased throughout the entire RPM range, improving low RPM drivability and available power. The numbers don’t lie, the AMS Performance VB WRX Air Intake is hard to beat!
PRODUCT NOTES
- The filters use specially designed media that allows performance and efficiency to be restored to near new each time by simply using compressed air (30-40 psi) from the inside out, making frequent washing unnecessary in order to restore filter performance. For a deep cleaning from extreme environments, a biodegradable cleaner such as Simple Green or other mild shop degreasers can be used. Simply place the filter in a solution or spray the cleaner on the filter. Allow the solution to loosen the particulate and then rinse thoroughly. Shake the filter or use compressed air from the inside outward to remove residual water and allow a full day or two to dry.
